Richard "Don" McCain Tuesday, February 22, 1938 - Tuesday, May 30, 2017

Richard “Don” McCain, age 79, of Highland, passed away on Tuesday May 30, 2017. He is survived by his loving wife Johann of 55 years and 7 months; his daughters, Linda (Larry) McCutchen of Tennessee and Patricia; his son, Donald; grandchildren, Justin (Tracy) Hazlegrove of Maryland, Kristina (Chris) Murphy of Tennessee, Brandi (John) Gordon of Georgia; great-grandchildren, Bryan, David, Madison, Taylor and Brayden; sister-in-law, Linda Altgilbers and numerous nieces and nephews and devoted friends. Lastly, his faithful hunting dog Hugo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Lillian; brothers-in-law, Dennis Altgilbers and Al Pomplin; sister-in-law, Lee Pomplin and granddaughter, Jessica Hazlegrove. The family would like to thank Hospice of the Calumet Area and especially the William J. Riley Memorial Residence – Hospice, for the compassionate care they provided. Don was born in Hammond on Feb. 22, 1938. He graduated from Hammond H.S. in 1957. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Neosho. He was a member of the Association of Gunners’ Mate and a member of the Momence Sportsmans’ Club. He worked at Burgers’ Supermarket and retired from Walt’s Food. He loved hunting, fishing, camping and traveling with his beloved wife Johann. A memorial visitation will be on Saturday, June 10, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Randy Harrison, officiating at Fagen-Miller Funeral Home, 2828 Highway Ave., Highland. A military service will be performed honoring Don for his dedication. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Hospice of the Calumet Area, 600 Superior Ave., Munster, IN 46321.
