William “Bill” E. Kilander, of Dyer; devoted husband, loving dad and papa, went home to his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.
Bill was born in Hammond, IN. A 1953 graduate of St. John Township High School in Dyer. There he fell in love with the love of his life, Jean Perry. Bill worked for Wonder Bread almost 40 years. Bill was a long time member of Dyer United Methodist Church, where he served many in need at the food pantry over 40 years. There he was also involved in the Men’s Club and Sunday School. As a resident of Cedarhurst Assisted Living, he helped organize a men’s group. Bill enjoyed fishing, woodworking, working in his gardens and watching birds.
Bill is survived by his 3 daughters: Julie (Bruce) Ronald, Cheryl (James) Hussey, and Nancy (Robert) Forsythe; 8 grandchildren: Becka (Stephen) Mette, Bruce Forsythe, Jessica (Daniel) Hursh, Matthew (Annie) Hussey, Maureen (Josh) Solarczyk, William Hussey, Aaron Hussey, and Sean Hussey; and 7 great grandkids. He is also survived by his siblings Joan Bicanic, Robert (Linda) Kilander, Harry (Pat) Kilander; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his high school sweetheart, Jean (nee Perry) Kilander; parents Wilfred and Ellen Kilander; siblings Helen Bill, Mary Ereliwien, Jean McCabe, Shirley Kilander, and Bruce Kilander.
Visitation will be held at the Fagen-Miller Funeral Home, 1920 Hart St in Dyer on Monday, February 19, 2024 from 2-8 pm; and on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at Dyer United Methodist Church, 2016 Church St from 9:30 am until the time of service at 10 am with Pastor Devin Cook officiating. Burial Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crown Point.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dyer United Methodist Church.
